46% increase in average daily mobile internet usage by summer 2022: NTRA

A report by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) showed an increase in the daily usage rate of mobile internet services of 46% in the summer of 2022, compared to the summer of 2021, supported by an increase in the number of mobile Internet users by about 9.4 million users.

In addition, according to the report, fixed Internet usage rates increased by 32%, supported by an increase in the number of fixed Internet users of around 904,000 users.

The NTRA also revealed in its report the pattern of internet usage by Egyptians during the summer of this year.

Short entertainment videos like Tik Tok and Lyke

The viewing and completion rate of short entertainment videos increased by 69% in the summer of 2022 compared to the summer of last year.

In addition, the number of users reached 18.4 million short video creators, and the total number of video hours was 4.4 million hours per day.

E-mail

Email usage decreased by 3.5%, with the number of users reaching 16.1 million and the number of emails sent rising to 12.2 million emails per year. day.

Navigation

The report showed a 48% increase in the use of map search services such as Google Maps, Here we go and Waze, with the number of users reaching 16.5 million and the number of searches reaching 107.7 million per day.

Content delivery

The viewing rate of content such as movies and series through apps and online platforms like Netflix, Shahid and WatchIt also increased by 73%, with the number of viewers reaching 35.8 million and the number of hours of 20.2 million views per day.

In addition, the volume of use has increased by approximately 73%.

Shopping online

Online shopping services grew by 104%, with the number of shoppers rising to 11.2 million and the number of shopping-related searches reaching 230.4 million per day.

Internet browsing and downloads

Browsing on various websites saw a 21% increase in usage, according to the report, adding that the number of users reached 42.9 million and the number of visits reached 3.8 billion per day.

social media

The usage rate of social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter increased by 5%, with the number of users reaching 34.3 million and the number of visits 2.1 billion per day.

Search engine

The usage rate of online search engines such as Google increased by 10%, registering 37.5 million users and 2.7 billion searches per day.

Video games

Participation in online video games increased by 69%, with the number of players increasing to 17.4 million and playing time reaching 424,000 hours per day.

Live chat

Online chat through apps such as Telegram and WhatsApp grew by 44%, with the number of users reaching 22.1 million and the number of messages reaching 258.6 billion per day.

Live Video Broadcast

The volume of usage of live streaming services also increased by 65%, with the number of video creators reaching 18,400 streaming 3,400 hours a day.

Remote meetings

Finally, online meetings via apps like Zoom and Skype grew by 25%, with the number of users reaching 1.5 million and the number of meeting hours increasing to 103.8 million per day.
