5G mobile service to be launched soon in the country, Modi government says
New Delhi: The 5G mobile service will soon be launched in the country. The way has been cleared for the 5G spectrum auction. The cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave the green signal on Tuesday to auction 5G spectrum for the next 20 years. The spectrum auction will start from the end of July. The central government informed that a total of 72 GHz frequencies will be auctioned in (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz), Mid (3300 MHz) and High ( 26 GHz) Frequency bands.
In a statement, the government said that 5G telecommunications services are expected to be launched soon, the speed and capacity of 5G mobile service will be about 10 times that of 4G mobile service. Payment for spectrum can be made in 20 equal annual installments, which must be paid in advance at the beginning of each year. This will likely significantly reduce cash requirements and reduce the cost of doing business in the sector. At the same time, the company acquiring the spectrum will have the option to return the spectrum after 10 years with no future commitment.
The Cabinet also gave the green signal to the private captive network, using which companies and tech giants can have their own networks, which will be used to enable machine-to-machine communication, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence applications in automotive, healthcare, agriculture, energy and other sectors.
