Huawei 5Green solutions win GTI “Innovation Breakthrough in Mobile Technology Award” and “Outstanding Award”
[Barcelona, Spain, March 1, 2022] Huawei 5Green Solutions was awarded twice at MWC22 in Barcelona, winning the GTI “Innovation Breakthrough in Mobile Technology Award” and “Outstanding Award”, a testament to Huawei’s substantial contributions to technological innovation and sustainable development in its efforts to promote customer benefits.
Huawei launched 5Green in an effort to help carriers meet growing traffic demand among consumers and businesses as more radio access technologies (RATs), frequency bands and locations are rolled out . 5Green consists of two solutions: GreenSite and PowerStar; it helps ensure that operators can optimize the network experience while improving energy efficiency, containing multi-dimensional metrics that measure energy efficiency.

These energy efficiency assessment metrics cover capacity, coverage, and experience, among other aspects, to guide 5G network construction toward more green and user-friendly models.
GreenSite, as its name suggests, aims to help operators build green sites, exploiting the full potential of innovative base station hardware and site networking. In terms of base station hardware, GreenSite provides MetaAAU, which is designed with an innovative Extremely Wide Antenna Array (ELAA) that includes 384 elements, twice that of common AAUs. MetaAAU can reduce site power consumption while improving network performance. Regarding site networking, GreenSite adopts a Centralized Radio Access Network (C-RAN) architecture, which enables centralized placement of baseband units. This reduces the amount of equipment rooms and air conditioners needed, which in turn reduces energy consumption.
The PowerStar energy saving solution injects intelligence into multi-band and multi-RAT networks, to maximize energy efficiency while maintaining a premium user experience. In typical network configurations, PowerStar helps operators reduce network energy consumption by more than 25%.
Aaron Jiang, President of Huawei’s SingleRAN Product Line, highlighted the significance of the company’s achievements at MWC 2022, saying, “Winning two prestigious GTI Awards indicates widespread acclaim within the industry for technologies Huawei’s power-saving solutions for wireless base stations, as well as their Huawei will continue to pursue customer-centric innovation that will benefit the industry as a whole and make it easier for carriers to build 5G networks. high performance and energy efficient.
Huawei supports carriers’ green development strategies with comprehensive solutions that integrate green site, green network, and green operation, enabling carriers to continuously increase network capacity with lower power consumption per bit. We promote green and sustainable development through More Bits, Less Watts.
GTI is an open platform designed to help global telecommunications operators explore and promote new communication technologies. The GTI Summit 2022, under the theme “5G and Decarbonization”, will detail recent progress in the development of carbon-neutral 5G solutions, while showcasing revolutionary new technologies. The GTI Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the evolution of 4G and the development of 5G across a wide range of industries.
