Nepal Telecom plans to trial 5G mobile internet service in all seven provinces by mid-July 2023 – myRepublica
KATHMANDU, November 13: Nepal Telecom (NT) has launched a pre-test of 5G mobile internet service from its two transmission stations based in the capital.
According to NT, for the past few days it has been carrying out a preliminary test of the advanced mobile internet service from its offices in Sundhara and Babarmahal in Kathmandu. “After the success of the pre-test, we will move to the next phase of testing in three other districts outside of Kathmandu,” said Ranjit Lohiya, NT’s deputy spokesperson.
5G is a fifth-generation mobile technology that offers a superfast peak data speed of 1 Gbps. Featuring mobile broadband, the system can download an Ultra HD movie in seconds. It also ensures high reliability of Internet service.
In March 2021, the government allowed NT to test 5G services. In the first phase, the NT planned to test the advanced internet service in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar and Nepalgunj by installing BTS towers at these locations.
Nepal currently has 4G networks which were established in January 2017. NT has received government approval to operate 5G with a frequency of 60 MHz in 2600 MHz bands.
Meanwhile, the NT aims to conduct 5G service trials in all seven provinces by the end of the current fiscal year.
