Oraimo to build mobile technology factory in Nigeria

(Ecofin Agency) – Nigeria is one of the largest telecommunications markets in Africa, with more than 201 million subscribers in April 2022. It is therefore an attractive market for manufacturers of mobile phones and accessories. .

Smartphone accessories maker Oraimo Mobile Technology has announced plans to build a large mobile technology factory in Nigeria. The venture was revealed by Oraimo Managing Director Chidi Okonkwo during the inauguration of the manufacturer’s flagship store and customer experience center at Jabi Lake Mall in the city of Abuja.

Baptized “The Green World”, the flagship store aims to be a point of sale for all quality mobile accessories. During the inauguration, Okonkwo highlighted the company’s commitment to quality, durable and affordable products. “Nigeria has come of age with a burgeoning population of tech-savvy young professionals and educated youths who can house the largest mobile tech production plant in Africa,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Emeka Offor, Acting Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), praised Oraimo’s contribution to economic growth and human capital development. “It is high time to stop importing raw materials into Nigeria. The time has come for production to be predominant in Nigeria, and from here we will export to other African nations and the world,” he said.

The future factory is announced in a context marked by substantial efforts by the government to attract investments from major players in the digital industry and drive technological development in line with the country’s 2022-2025 digital development strategy. Last April, the Nigerian Senate passed a bill creating a national industrial and technology park.
