Southern 7 Health Department Launches Mobile Kidney Service

ULLIN, Ill. (KFVS) – The Southern 7 Health Department (S7HD) is teaming up with local businesses and organizations to bring health services for your kidney, on wheels.

“For Mobile Kidney, we partner with local organizations that provide free screenings to everyone across the state of Illinois,” said Natalie Sawyer of S7HD.

Sawyer explained that the mobile health service will stop at various locations and at various times and dates when they will perform screenings.

She said tracking your kidney health can help prevent future illnesses.

“Diabetes is related to the kidneys, and you’ll often hear about people on dialysis.”

Sawyer said that since there is currently no cure for kidney failure, detecting a problem may be the key to living a longer life.

“That’s why it’s one of those things that we try to get people to find out, you know, how the body works but also to get those screenings early, because prevention is better than trying to deal with it later,” Sawyer said.

She said prevention is the main goal of the mobile service. Whether it’s the health of your kidneys or any other part of your body.

“There is so much more than doctors and we can do for ourselves if we learn things early. So prevention first of course, but if you find yourself finding out that you have some type of disease or disorder, of course, earlier treatment is always better,” Sawyer said.
