Three wants new 5G mobile phone mast to improve Hereford signal
A BIG new mobile phone mast could be coming to Hereford, if plans are approved by Herefordshire Council.
CK Hutchison Networks, the company behind Three UK, wants to install the 20m 5G mast on the Roman Road side, near the Starting Gate roundabout and Holmer Road.
He asked Herefordshire Council’s planning department for prior approval which, if granted, would see the mast installed with the equipment cabinets.
In documents submitted to planners, the company said it is committed to providing improved network coverage and capacity, especially with its 5G service.

5G is the newest type of phone service, providing faster internet access. Although some concerns about the safety of 5G have been raised in the past, it is considered safe.

The company said high-speed internet access on cellphones was “the lifeblood of a community”, bringing educational benefits, access to vital services and improving communications and business benefits for businesses. .
He also said the new mast would help meet an increased need and demand for working from home, as well as gaining access to social media, media and games for leisure activities.
The company said the mast would not detract from the appearance of the street, with the site next to the Special Metal Wiggin factory. He had also looked at other places in the area.
