Victoria duo make heart testing more accessible with mobile service – Saanich News
A nascent mobile cardiology testing service founded by two Victoria women comes from the heart.
Working as cardiology technologists for the past decade, friends Chelsea Brown and Jas Gill said they were often struck by the number of people who failed to show up for appointments because transportation, mobility or time restrictions prevented them from going to the clinic.
The COVID-19 pandemic has only made the problem worse.
In October, Brown and Gill decided to do something. They launched Island Mobile Cardiology Testing, with the promise of meeting patients wherever they are and making cardiac testing accessible to everyone. They currently serve patients between Duncan and Victoria.
“We have had clients of all ages, from young adults to people in their 100s, people with known heart conditions who are being monitored…, people with new symptoms that we are trying to catch…and people on treatment at the methadone that we follow. assess to make sure they can continue their treatment,” Brown said.
At the request of a physician or nurse practitioner, services are fully covered by BC Medicare. Brown and Gill cover their own transportation costs.
The duo hope to reduce patient stress at a time when access to healthcare is often difficult. The service operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information on mobilecardio.ca.
